Ulysses S. Grant's Galena Home
Galena, Illinois

Ulysses S. Grant's Galena, Illinois, home

This house was given to General Ulysses S. Grant by the people of Galena, Illinois, after the Civil War. He had lived in Galena before the war, and returned there after his duties were done. He lived in this house until he became President of the United States in 1869. After his presidency, he lived in this home part of the time until he died.

Tour Guide I really enjoyed the tour through this house. For one thing, they allowed photography, which always makes me happy. For another, the tour guide was a very sweet little old lady who really knew her subject matter.
