Mary Todd Lincoln House
Lexington, Kentucky

Mary Todd Lincoln House
Mary Todd lived in this home during her teen-age years. Judging from the house and its furnishings, they were pretty well-to-do.

At age 18, Mary went to live with her sister in Springfield, Illinois, where she met and married Abraham Lincoln, who you've probably heard of. A few years after their marriage, the Lincolns visited this home for a few days.

This is the back yard of the Lexington home.

Mary Todd's Back Yard

Contrary to many people's impression, Mary Todd Lincoln was always well off financially. When her husband died, his estate was worth $110,000, quite a sum in those days. Although Congress wouldn't give her a pension until she begged for it, she eventually received one which was adequate for her needs.
