Don's PhotoJaunt 2003
Amish Country

Entrance to Intercourse, Pennsylvania

There's a name for you! When the town was founded, the most common meaning of the word "Intercourse" was "commerce," as in Thomas Jefferson's "Non-Intercourse Acts" forbidding trade with France.

Amish horse and buggy

This area is the center of the Amish [ah-mish] culture. One scene I wished I could have photographed was an Amish farmer with two children riding in an open buggy, the children bundled up against the cold and rain. But they passed me by with no time to take a picture. This was the best shot I could get of the Amish.
