Don's PhotoJaunt 2003Gettysburg National Military Park

Gettysburg National Military Park was not on my itinerary, but the Eisenhower Home was, and tickets for the Eisenhower Home are purchased at the office at the Military Park. When I went there to get my ticket, I was so impressed with the park that I stayed an extra day just to visit it. The photo shows the town of Gettysburg.

After the Battle of Gettysburg, when the tide of war had switched and the Union was beginning to see victory ahead, President Lincoln dedicated the national cemetery at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. This photo shows the spot where he stood, with hundreds of people in attendance, and delivered his immortal Gettysburg Address: "Fourscore and seven years ago. . ."

The park encompasses a vast area, with monuments and artifacts scattered about. It is both inspiring and depressing.

Rows upon rows of graves of the Civil War dead can be seen as far as the eye can see.

Civil War Monuments of states, regiments, and battles are scattered about the countryside.

The Soldiers Monument is the focal point of the park.
